Client: Portsmouth City Council
Contractor: TDS Electrical
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Services: Electrical fault diagnosis, car park lighting, lighting surveys, remedial electrical works and maintenance
TDS Electrical began working with Portsmouth City Council (PCC) after an initial meeting to introduce the capabilities of our wider group. What started as a conversation about a larger potential project developed into a successful working relationship built on responsiveness, practical advice and delivering what we promised.
The relationship began with a relatively small electrical problem at Tipner Park & Ride that had remained unresolved for around eight months. TDS Electrical visited the site, diagnosed the issue and provided a quotation within a week.
The speed and effectiveness of this response gave PCC confidence in TDS Electrical and led directly to the next opportunity.
PCC subsequently asked TDS Electrical to quote for the re-lamping of a car park at Market Way in Portsmouth.
The existing car park lighting required significant attention, and the project needed to be approached carefully because the car park would remain operational during the installation.
Before preparing our quotation, TDS Electrical carried out a detailed site survey. This allowed us to assess:
Rather than simply pricing the replacement of the existing lamps, the survey allowed us to develop a practical delivery plan around the specific conditions of the site.
The Market Way car park needed a fresh approach from an electrical contractor capable of responding quickly and taking ownership of the problem.
TDS Electrical developed a clear plan for the works, prepared a full costing document and presented our proposed solution to Portsmouth City Council.
The instruction from PCC was straightforward: once the purchase order was received, crack on as soon as possible.
Our team responded accordingly and progressed the project with the focus on completing the works efficiently, safely and with minimal disruption to the users of the car park.
Following completion of the Market Way car park project, TDS Electrical received positive feedback directly from the customer.
PCC contacted us to say what a great job the team had done and how pleased they were to finally see the car park fully lit.
That successful delivery led to another electrical project.
PCC asked TDS Electrical to remove electrical sockets from a stud wall so that the wall could be removed. The work also required remedial electrical works to the surrounding area.
Once again, TDS Electrical surveyed the requirements, provided a quotation and was awarded the project.
The works were completed within the week.
Following these successful projects, Portsmouth City Council asked TDS Electrical to become a maintenance contractor.
Our response was simple: of course.
What began with an introductory meeting had developed into an ongoing relationship, with TDS Electrical now an approved contractor for Portsmouth City Council.
For TDS Electrical, the value of this relationship is not simply becoming an approved contractor. It demonstrates the importance of doing the fundamentals well.
We believe a good electrical contractor should provide honest advice, understand the client’s requirements, respond when problems arise and, most importantly, deliver what has been promised.
Our work with Portsmouth City Council demonstrates how a small project can develop into a long-term client relationship when a contractor combines technical expertise with a responsive, can-do approach.
